Cycle services in the community, for the community
St Albans Cycle Hub is a not-for-profit organisation, formed in 2022, here for the diverse community of Cottonmill, as well as the wider cycling community. The Cycle Hub aims to provide a multitude of services ranging from bike repairs/servicing to teaching/supporting adults and children, of all abilities, to ride and use roads safely. We now also manage the fully accessible Cottonmill Community Centre, with the aim of providing a safe inclusive place for all the local community to meet in, network and grow local activities, building hire use, supporting users, and keeping users safe and happy.
Meet The Team
Cycle Hub Manager: Mat, an avid cyclist hailing from nearby Rickmansworth, joined the Cycle Hub in early 2022. In a previous life he ran several hospitality businesses so knows a thing or two about customer service (and a good cup of coffee!). When he's not in the Cycle Hub you'll normally find him on two wheels, whether it be on the pump track or training his trail dog, Sammy.
Cycle Mechanic: Oliver or 'Olly', as he's affectionately known, has been 'wrenching' for years and is the real engine of the operation. Keeping all things mechanical running continues into Olly's downtime too, he has a passion for retro bikes, and has taken N+1 to the extreme.
Cycle Hub Volunteer: John has worked in Bike shops across the country for over 30 years, as well as featuring in pulblications. there's not much about pedal machines this lovely chap doesn't know. John gives up his time to the shop helping to maintain our fleet of learn to ride bikes as well as sample the best tea the shop has to offer. We're lucky to have him.
Cycle Hub Volunteer: James a former Doctor came to us an avid cyclist who, unfortunately (During training for a lands end to John O'Groats effort) was hit by a vehicle from behind. Suffering serious head trauma. James' recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. He's our Hero! You'll see him around the hub re learning his mechanic skills and telling all manner of wonderful tales.
